Candidate Shopping Split

Use Costco for bulk/protein/value items when package size makes sense. Use Safeway for produce, bread, small quantities, and last-minute perishables.

Ribs Best Costco candidate if the group size can absorb the pack size. Check whether pre-seasoned or plain makes more sense. Costco first
Beef burgers Costco patties or ground beef likely win on value. Safeway only if quantities are small or a specific bun/meat combo is easier. Costco first
Wings for tandoori Costco for the wings; Safeway or pantry for yogurt, lemon, spices, foil pans, and any marinade gap. Costco + pantry
Veggie burgers Check Costco first for bulk frozen veggie patties. Use Safeway if the Costco option is too large or the vegetarian preference is specific. Costco first
Eggs Costco if making several breakfasts or using eggs beyond sandwiches. Safeway if only one small carton is needed. Quantity decides
Coffee stuff Costco for beans/grounds if needed; Safeway for filters, creamer, small milk, sugar, instant backup, or forgotten details. Split likely
Tomatoes and cheese Safeway is better for exact tomato count and cheese style. Costco only if buying a bulk sliced cheese pack intentionally. Safeway first
Bread, burger buns, sandwich rolls Safeway for the final bread decision, freshness, and smaller pack sizes. Include the Dave's/bread note when building cart. Safeway first
Mushrooms Safeway for a normal pack unless Costco has a useful grilling-size pack and cooler space is generous. Safeway first
Corn Safeway for exact ears and freshness. Costco only if a large tray/bag makes sense for the headcount. Safeway first
Asparagus Safeway for one or two bundles close to departure. Costco if the group wants a lot and the pack looks fresh. Safeway first
Saturday lunch Keep open until the group chooses the vibe: sandwiches, wraps, instant noodles, leftovers, or a Groveland stop. Discuss

Cart Verification Checklist

This is what still needs the logged-in browser session before ordering. No checkout without explicit approval.

Costco

  • Confirm signed-in price and warehouse/delivery availability
  • Check package size against group headcount
  • Check pickup or delivery window before departure
  • Confirm whether cold items fit cooler capacity

Safeway

  • Confirm pickup/delivery slot and store location
  • Use exact produce quantities and bread/bun choices
  • Add ice, foil, paper towels, trash bags, and condiments if missing
  • Check substitutions before checkout

Fire Status

Last daily check: Tue Aug 18, 8:00 AM PDT. Re-check again before buying firewood and again before departure.

Current read: campfires appear allowed only in the developed site fire ring/grill at Sweetwater site 3, because the Stanislaus NF restriction order exempts listed developed recreation sites and Sweetwater Campground appears in the listed Groveland Ranger District sites.

No active NWS Red Flag Warning or Fire Weather Watch was found for the Sweetwater point / CAZ137 during the Aug 18 daily check. Nearby smoke still deserves a last-minute check.
