Town deep dive: Pismo Beach wins on location - Friday's welcome party is 0.36 mi from the pier, walkable, and all three of the couple's discount hotels are there - but entire homes in Pismo are poor value. Arroyo Grande is one minute further from the ceremony and has the two best-rated houses found ($486 and $460), though both are rural and not walkable to anything. Oceano is cheapest and has the best 4-person house ($705, 3bd/2ba) but is furthest, quietest, and sits next to the off-road vehicle dunes.

Both top hotels take 4 in the SAME room for only $10-$20 more than the 3-guest rate, so booking the 4-adult rate makes the question moot.

The venue is NOT in downtown San Luis Obispo. Villa Loriana sits ~9.7 mi SOUTH of downtown SLO, out toward Arroyo Grande. Staying in SLO city buys almost nothing.

Staying in downtown SLO instead of Nipomo saves 4 minutes to the wedding and 0 minutes to the welcome party. The Friday party in Pismo is actually CLOSER to Nipomo. On Saturday, the Nipomo route reaches Villa Loriana from the south and never enters SLO city or passes Cal Poly - so it also avoids the 5pm kickoff traffic that a downtown SLO stay would have to drive through.

How many nights? ANSWERED: 2 nights is correct. The last event is Sunday brunch, 9-11 am Oct 4, at the venue. The existing booking checks out Oct 4, so: check out, go to brunch, drive home. The calendar's Oct 2-5 block is wider than the actual schedule. A 3rd night is comfort-only - if you'd rather not drive home Sunday, grab a downtown SLO room for $63-$80.

Why SLO is so expensive: one football game

Cal Poly vs Weber State football, HOME — 2026-10-03 17:00. Only Cal Poly home game in October. Falls on the Saturday in the middle of the stay. Mission Inn runs $313/night on Oct 2–3 and $73 on Oct 4 — a 4.3× game-weekend premium. The spike is entirely Friday + Saturday. Official schedule.

Biggest thing I found: Friday's welcome party is a 0.36 mile WALK from the Pismo pier. Stay in downtown Pismo and nobody drives Friday night.

• PISMO — 9 min to the wedding, walk to Friday's party. All 3 of the couple's discount hotels are here, so most guests will be in Pismo. But whole houses here are expensive and mostly 1-bedroom.
• ARROYO GRANDE — 10 min to the wedding (only 1 min further!), 5 to Friday. Best value houses: $486 and $460, both superbly rated. Catch: they're country properties, you drive for everything.
• OCEANO — 12 min / 7 min. Cheapest, and has the best 4-person house ($705, 3 bed 2 bath). But smallest town, least to do, and it's next to the off-road vehicle dunes.

Also: the wedding ends at 10pm with drinks from 4pm — somebody's driving. Worth sorting now.
